Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor's IP address, and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it — its privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included — visitors can download and extract location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These last one year. A temporary cookie determines if your browser accepts cookies and is discarded when you close your browser. Login cookies last two days, and screen-option cookies last a year; selecting "Remember Me" extends your login for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies. Editing or publishing an article saves a cookie with no personal data, containing only the post ID, and it expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content behaves exactly as if the visitor had visited the other website, and may collect data, use cookies, and track your interaction with it.

If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically. For registered users, we store the personal information in their profile; all users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username).

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, or request that we erase it — excluding data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
